Food and Transportation
Chanichim are provided with a monthly stipend (allowance) for food. Each apartment receives a special payment card and Shalem staff adds the stipiend monthly to the card. This allows the participants to purchase food together for their apartment, learn how to budget and experience Israeli supermarkets!
Chanichim are also provided with a monthly local bus pass to travel around the city. The bus pass allows unlimited travel around the city, to allow the chanichim to get to their Ulpan, classes and volunteering. At the end of the week chanichim can use Israel’s inter-city bus system and train system to get around – their madrichim will assist them in navigating the websites required to look up schedules and station details.
