Special Events

The Shalem program includes numerous opportunities for participants in each section to celebrate as a full group.

Orientation in Israel: Upon arriving in Israel, on the first day of the program, all participants come together for opening introductions before heading off to their starting cities. This initial orientation will take the whole group to the kotel, provide a meet-and-greet with the Israeli staff and help them adjust to their arrival in Israel. Coming together as a whole group, during Orientation and at other times during the year, provides time for the chanichim to bond and creates a sense of being part of something bigger than just their own section.

Tiyulim (hikes / overnights): The full group of Year Course participants will come together a number of times during the year for opportunities to share stories of their individual experiences and explore the beauty of the country.  While the locations and scheduling of these trips may change, the tiyulim will cover different parts of the country.

Sports Day: Friendly competition provides countless opportunity for fun!  During the year, all Year Course participants will assemble for a day of camaraderie and good-natured competition (much like the Maccabia held during the Young Judaea Summer Israel programs).

Guest Lectures: From time to time important people with experience share their knowledge and impart wisdom. A Nasa Veteran explains how and if one can observe Shabbat on a space shuttle. A Chassidic rabbi shows you what exactly a tisch entails. How does a religious person serve in the most elite unit in the army? All these people and more have exhilarating stories and fascinating facts to share with you!
